Some of my colleagues and I received an e-mail from the Diversity and Inclusion committee at my workplace, also my alma mater, titled “FWD: Policy on microaggressions”, asking for feedback. I read the few pages, and all the microaggressions my family, my friends, and I have been subject to (and we too may subject those on others) throughout the years at the hands of others and our own began to resurface. I took to Instagram and asked, “What are some microaggressions you’ve been subjected to?”, and this poem is a lament — if that’s even the correct word — to that.
